Course Description

This course examines the why, how, and direction of faith-based engagement in the political life of our communities and nation. It also addresses areas of resistance and confusion regarding such engagement.  It invites informed and renewed commitment to working for the public good of all God’s people through spirited participation in civic affairs.

Learning Objectives

• Describe holistic faith, how Christian faith is practiced in all aspects of our lives and explain the importance and interdependence of every such expression.
• Explicate theological imperatives for faith-based engagement in political affairs and decisions.
• Summarize and respond to sources of confusion and resistance regarding congregational advocacy for social justice in the public square.
• Assess the distinctive characteristics of Christian faith and practice that should noticeably affect how individuals and churches conduct themselves in the public square.
